Before It's Gone (“we”) helps beloved places have a proper goodbye and lets people know when a place they love is closing. We care about doing this respectfully — with your data as much as with the places we serve. This policy explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Your email and city, when you sign up for closing alerts or submit an inquiry — only with your explicit consent.
- Stories and photos you choose to share on a memory page, along with the name you attach to them.
- Account details (email, and a display name if you add one) if you create an account, handled through Google Firebase Authentication.
- Anonymous usage data — which pages are viewed, and a random identifier stored in your browser to estimate unique visitors. We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and this data is not tied to your identity.
How we use it
- To send you the closing alerts, farewell invitations, and Return Night invitations you asked for.
- To publish the memories you consented to share on a place's memory page.
- To run and improve the website and understand which pages are useful.
- To provide Premium membership billing, handled by Stripe (we never see your card number).
What we never do
- We never sell your data or your email address.
- We never buy email lists or add you without consent.
- We never share your private email with the public — memory pages show only your name and your words.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email at any time using the link in the message. You can ask us to remove a memory you shared, correct your information, or delete your data entirely — just reach out through the inquiry form on our homepage and we'll take care of it.
Service providers
We use Google Firebase (authentication and data storage), Vercel (hosting), and Stripe (payments). Each processes data only to provide their part of the service.
